This 2-day course covers the key skills required for the installation, fault finding and inspection and testing of electric vehicle charging points.
This is a primarily theory-based course and is designed
only for qualified and experienced electrical installers who have the knowledge
of electrical installations in both commercial and domestic premises.
This qualification covers the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for the charging of pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric road vehicles (PHEV) and includes the extended range of electric vehicles (E-REV). It covers the installation of both AC and DC charging equipment intended for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) complying with BS EN 61851 and “The Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations”.
This course is also essential to meet part of the criteria
for applying to join the governments OLEV scheme. After joining the OLEV scheme
you can claim the grant offered by OLEV on behalf of your customers providing
certain criteria is met.
At the end of the course, you will undertake an online
multiple-choice exam and a short practical assessment, the exam consists of 22
questions and is an open book exam. You can take the IET Code of Practice for
Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation book for reference.
During the course you will also gain experience and get familiary with the latest Electric Vehicle chargers such as the Zappi and Project EV which do not require an earth electrode to be installed and simplifies the installation process.
Candidates should hold the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and an Initial
Verification, Inspection & Testing qualifications for registering on this
You will need to purchase IET Code of Practice for Electric
Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation 4th Edition which is not included
in the course fee. The book can be purchased at the centre.
