On the 1st July 2018 sees the release of the IET 18th Edition Requirements for Electrical Installations 2018:BS7671. This fully updated version of the wiring regulations will formally come into effect on 1st January 2019.

City & Guilds will release their new updated version of this very popular qualification, 2382-18 Requirement for Electrical Installations in July 2018.

Training in Electrical is already involved and preparing for this brand-new qualification liaising with the IET and City & Guilds to offer this highly anticipated award to our learners.  

The new City & Guilds 2382-18 18th Edition Wiring Regulations 2018:BS7671 electrical course will incorporate the very latest changes and additions. There will be some significant changes presently being finalised which include: Protection against overvoltage, Protection against fire, changes to the Special Location Section 753 to include embedded heating systems and a new section on energy efficiency.

This course is presently being designed to give the candidates the best possible opportunity of success. This short electrical course is intended for all persons involved in the electrical industry including operatives new to the industry and those wishing to update their knowledge from the 17th Edition to the new 18th Edition Wiring Regulation. The course is theory based, providing the under pinning knowledge and understanding of all 8 parts of the latest version of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulation BS7671:2018. Candidates are expected to complete an open book multiple choice test on the final day. With a continuous high success rate achieved by our learners here at Training in Electrical, it is advisable to consider registering onto this short 2-day weekend or evening course well in advance of the release date.

  • Evaluate the legal status of the regulations and any legislation which has a bearing on their application
  • Identify the fundamental requirements for safety
  • Define the main factors to consider when designing and erecting an installation
  • List the earthing arrangements
  • Discuss methods of protection from shock arising from direct and indirect contact
  • Distinguish between main and supplementary bonding
  • Calculate earth fault loop impedance
  • Select over current protection devices for particular installations
  • Select the appropriate switchgear for a given installation, including special locations
  • Calculate the size of cables in relation to their current carrying capacity and voltage drop
  • Explain why inspection of the installation is undertaken
  • State the items, which need to be inspected
  • List what background information is required before carrying out an inspection
  • State why testing of an installation is undertaken
  • Understand the requirements of energy efficiency
The course will deal with each individual section of the wiring regulations and there will be plenty of opportunity to practice and be assessed on your knowledge and understanding of the content.
